FREDERICTON, March 2nd, 2022- The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick (AANB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Jones as its new Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) New Brunswick Coordinator, effective February 7th, 2022.

“We are happy to have Chris as AITC New Brunswick Coordinator and we look forward to the agricultural-based activities and programs both Chris and our AITC New Brunswick Manager, Charlotte, will bring to the New Brunswick education system.” Says Anna Belliveau, CEO of the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick.

“Chris is a wonderful addition to Agriculture in the Classroom in New Brunswick. His classroom background helps to guide our programming so that we are mindful of curriculum outcomes, teacher’s expectations and student experience. We are also looking forward to supporting our French speaking schools with bilingual programming.” Says Charlotte Flores, Agriculture in the Classroom New Brunswick Manager.

Chris originally came to New Brunswick from Ontario to attend University of New Brunswick and graduated with a Bachelor of Sociology degree. Upon completion of his undergrad, he stayed in the province to attend St-Thomas University where he received his Bachelor degree in Education. In the time since, he worked in Seoul, South Korea for 6 years while travelling much of South East Asia. When it was time to settle down and start a family, it was a no brainer to return to New Brunswick.

During the last 9 years, he has been working at the middle level in the Fredericton area teaching Science, Social Studies and Health in the French Immersion program. Chris has been involved in curriculum development, STEAM, inquiry based activities and labs as well as community based projects, collaborating with the Neil Squire Society, Greener Village, UNB and Brilliant Labs.

He believes that innovation will be key for the success of agriculture in NB. Through the use of hands-on, inquiry based activities, the Ag in the classroom program will allow kids to get their hands dirty, investigate life cycles, and explore careers they never knew existed. He is excited to be a part of the larger community of Agriculture in the Classroom Canada, and is looking forward to collaborating with those within the province and across the country in support of this very important industry.

“Combining my training in education and interests in agriculture, I could not think of a better situation in which I can help promote a more sustainable, prosperous Agriculture industry in New Brunswick, while working with NB youth to promote it as a viable option for their future in support of their local communities.” Says Chris Jones, newly appointed Agriculture in the Classroom New Brunswick Coordinator for the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick.

Funding for the Agriculture in the Classroom program is provided by the federal and provincial governments through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (administered by the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries), and by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labor.

The Agricultural Alliance is New Brunswick’s largest general farm organization, promoting the social and economic interests of all New Brunswick farmers.
